Book Launch of “Building Bridges”
The first anthology written by Immigrant Writers Association’s members
Toronto, ON: Today, the Immigrant Writers Association (IWA)/Association des écrivains immigrants (AEI) announced the official book launch of “Building Bridges,” the first anthology written by fourteen IWA members:
- November 7, 6:15 – 8:00 pm
- Toronto Public Library – Fort York Branch.
Published on October 15, 2019, “Building Bridges” reached #1 on Amazon Canada in the “Emigration & Immigration” category.
The book presents stories and various viewpoints on how immigrants build bridges— between cultures, inner and outer worlds, past and future—nurtured by and with flavours of thirteen cultures besides Canada: Romania, India, France, Senegal, Argentina, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Cameroon, Lebanon, Iran, USA, and Germany.
A thriving incorporated non-profit organization that started in June 2018, IWA provides programs and activities to empower and support immigrant writers in their journeys. True to its mission—to encourage immigrants to express themselves more through writing—IWA is proud to have added another feather to its cap: the first anthology co-authored by members.
“When we migrate, most of us shift attention from ourselves to adapting and building a life in the new country. But as immigrants, we have so much to share: our distinct experiences, the cultures we embody, our perspectives and expertize. IWA’s mission reflects my belief: we need fewer speeches and more platforms like this, which encourages the respectful expression of various viewpoints. It also invites participants to become more active participants to build a better future,” says Gabriela Casineanu, IWA’s President, an immigrant herself and award-winning author.
