Immigrant Writing Association (IWA) seeks dynamic, enthusiastic, creative individuals, who are new graduates and self-starters to assist with marketing and communication aspects for the organization. This position is an excellent opportunity to apply professional skills and experience in various aspects of marketing (social media, newsletter) while volunteering for a well-known community-based non-profit organization and serving the immigrant population in Canada.

Hours: Attendance at a 45min orientation/training session is required. Duration for the Minimum 6-month commitment, 1-2hr per week, Flexible schedule based on deliverables.

Compensation: Unpaid volunteer position

Responsibilities:

Update and maintain IWA social media presence, including scheduling updates on all social media platforms

Assist in planning, writing, and managing monthly eNewsletter

Draft, distribute, and pitch news releases, and media alerts

Designing flyers, graphics, content, and other marketing material for major events hosted by IWA

Update the IWA website when needed

Organize and attend marketing committee meetings, assist with preparing agenda and taking minutes

Collaborating with members/staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications

Qualifications

• Firm grasp of available tools and social media platforms

• Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., Journalism, English language and literature, Graphic design, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)

• Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus

• Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Canva is highly desired including Knowledge of HTML and graphic design is a plus.

• An effective communicator, both written and oral

• Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines

• Enthusiasm for IWA’s mission to amplify the immigrant voice and the community of immigrant writers we serve
