Book Description

Stories unite and inspire us – no matter the language or country of origin!

Connected by one of the world’s most multicultural cities, emerging and published authors – members of the Immigrant Writers Association (IWA) – were asked to share stories and viewpoints on how immigrants build bridges: between cultures, inner and outer worlds, past and future…

Each chapter of this engaging anthology – written in their preferred style (poetry, non-fiction, fiction) – portrays different aspects of the vast array of immigrants’ experiences. All spiced up with cultural “flavours” of thirteen countries besides Canada: Romania, India, France, Senegal, Argentina, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Cameroon, Lebanon, Germany, USA, and Iran.

Similar to IWA’s mission, this book is also an attempt to build bridges between people – immigrants or not – connecting them through universal themes like belonging, finding your voice and purpose, desire, spirituality, ancestry and more.

What People Say

Diverse voices and unique storytelling. I really enjoyed reading through these stories. Each one has a unique voice and speaks to the the author’s experience as an immigrant in Canada, some through fiction and others through personal experience. I found each viewpoint quite enlightening.

Krys Johnston

Very relatable stories, especially to all of us who have moved to a new country and tried to find our way into the culture.

M.C.

I enjoyed the stories, original and different in style but very imaginative and well written.

François P.

Interesting perspectives from different immigrants, about how they’ve overcome their challenges, and how immigrants build bridges – contributing to their new country.

G.C.

“I was pleasantly surprised by the satire approach to the immigrant journey. It made me relate and laugh at the same time.”

T.B.

“We need more of such stories to come out and reflect on the experiences of those that immigrated and started a new life. Great accomplishment, Immigrant Writers Association!”

Felicia T.

Being someone who also migrated to another country (not Canada) I relate to the stories at a deeper level, and made me realize the migration experience and how you feel about it is similar even when the country of destination is not the same.

I recommend this book not just to migrants but also to people who know someone from a different country because from reading it you understand at a deep level the struggles and feelings of someone that has gone through the migration process.
